TSX Top 5: Alacer Gold, Nevada Copper Take Top Spots
Wellgreen Platinum, Allana Potash and Ur-Energy also enjoyed some upward momentum on the Toronto Stock Exchange last week.
2014 is almost over, but there’s still lots going on in the resource space. In fact, a number of companies were able to make fairly substantial gains on the Toronto Stock Exchange last week.
The top gainer was Alacer Gold (TSX:ASR), but it was followed closely by Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU), Wellgreen Platinum (TSX:WG), Allana Potash (TSX:AAA) and Ur-Energy (TSX:URE).
Alacer Gold
Intermediate gold miner Alacer Gold gained 15.2 percent last week to end at $2.35 per share, though it released to news to explain the rise.
The company expects to produce between 160,000 and 180,000 ounces of gold in 2014 at its 80-percent-owned Çöpler gold mine in Turkey.
Nevada Copper
Nevada Copper, an exploration and development company that owns the Pumpkin Hollow copper property in the US, reported some positive news last week. It said Wednesday that the Lyon County Land Bill, which would allow for an accelerated permitting path for Stage 2 of Pumpkin Hollow, has been included in the National Defense Authorization Act and is likely to pass this week.
“We are very pleased to hear that our bill has been included in the NDAA,” President and CEO Giulio Bonifacio said in a release. “We are advised by the Nevada Congressional delegation and our Washington representatives that the NDAA, as now published, has broad bipartisan support in the Senate and House.”
The news bumped Nevada Copper up 10.77 percent to trade at $1.44.
Wellgreen Platinum
Wellgreen Platinum graduated to the Toronto Stock Exchange on December 3, according to a news release, and gained 10.29 percent to trade at $0.75. Wellgreen is a Canadian mining exploration and development company that is concentrating on its Wellgreen platinum-group metals project in the Yukon Territory. The project is one of the largest platinum-group metals deposits outside Africa or Russia.
“The TSX is recognized globally as a leading market for the resource industry and should provide Wellgreen Platinum with greater visibility, trading liquidity and broader access to the capital markets and investors,” said Greg Johnson, the company’s president and CEO.
Allana Potash
Explorer and developer Allana Potash, which is working in Ethiopia, gained 10 percent to trade at $0.33 last week. Like Alacer, the company reported no news.
Ur-Energy
Ur-Energy gained 9.38 percent last week to trade at $1.05. A uranium mining company working in Wyoming, Ur-Energy identifies, acquires, explores and develops uranium properties.
The company has not released any news lately, though it was featured as a presenting company at the California-based LD Micro Conference last week.
