Windstream (NASDAQ:WIN) on Thursday announced that it has completed its initiative of doubling the availability of its 100 Mbps Kinetic Internet Service six weeks ahead of schedule.
As quoted in the press release:
As a result, approximately 34 percent of households in local exchanges across Windstream’s 18-state footprint now qualify for 100 Mbps. When the initiative was announced Jan. 14, the company anticipated it could qualify 30 percent of households by the end of March. The work was completed in mid-February, six weeks early. The company expects approximately 40 percent of households will qualify for 100 Mbps by mid-year.
In addition, 50 percent of households now qualify for 50 Mbps, up from 40 percent of households at the end of 2018. Similarly, 64 percent of households now qualify for 25 Mbps, up from approximately 60 percent at the end of 2018.
“At Windstream, we are passionate about delivering premium internet speeds to more families and businesses across rural America,” said Jeff Small, president of the company’s consumer and small and medium-sized business segment. “We have taken steps to speed up our broadband deployment process, and that’s nothing but good news for some of the most rural communities in the nation.”
