The Cleveland, Ohio college wanted to move away from its five competing video solutions that were being used in several ways, all a bit differently from each other. Mediasite is now the preferred lecture capture tool and the central dynamic repository for all academic video files across its four campuses.

“Tri-C used several video solutions simultaneously before moving to Mediasite. Faculty and students were creating videos in all sorts of ways and posting them in a variety of places – YouTube, Blackboard, personal websites, etc. Plus, there was no rhyme or reason to how we were managing the videos. It was ineffective and expensive,” said Michelle Reed, Online Video Strategist, Tri-C Online Learning and Academic Technology.

Reed continued: “Mediasite allows us to consolidate our video efforts and save money. Faculty and students can create and share videos in Mediasite, and everything is available to watch in Blackboard. Plus, we can take the thousands of legacy videos we created using other solutions and import them into Mediasite, making them searchable and new again.”

Micro Learning with Personal Capture Tools
In addition to Mediasite room capture for traditional lectures, faculty and students also have access to Mediasite capture software, allowing them to quickly create videos and communicate with students.

My Mediasite Desktop Recorder turns their personal devices into an anytime, anywhere studio, allowing them to create short video lectures and assignments. For example, faculty will be able to create micro learning content, supplement homework assignments and elaborate on topics based on student feedback.

“Mediasite Desktop Recorder is a great solution to put on lab computers for students to easily record videos and share with their instructors,” Reed said.

In addition, Tri-C uses Mediasite to:

• Reach non-traditional students: Many students have families and jobs, making it difficult to attend class in real-time. Mediasite allows those students to watch lectures when and where it works best, while still engaging with instructors through interactive features such as quizzes, comments and ask-a-question.

• Record simulations:
 Tri-C will work with academic departments to share the benefits of integrating Medasite into many simulation laboratories for studies such as nursing, radiology, emergency management, truck driving and police and fire, allowing students to not just watch videos but actually see their instructors demonstrating complex procedures.
