Standard & Poor’s Downgrades US Credit Rating to AA+

The US was issued a a AA+ rating by S&P, down from its top rating of AAA.
The world’s largest economy was issued a downgraded credit rating by S&P. The US was given a AA+ rating, down from its top rating of AAA.
The rating agency announced “The downgrade reflects our opinion that the … plan that Congress and the Administration recently agreed to falls short of what, in our view, would be necessary to stabilize the government’s medium-term debt dynamics.”
