Kitco News reported the global platinum market is expected to end 2011 in a small surplus of 195,000 ounces, said Johnson Matthey.

As quoted in the market news:

The supply/demand balance from 2010 was nearly balanced at a small deficit of 25,000 ounces.

Johnson Matthey said it looks for total demand to rise to 8.08 million ounces this year, the most in four years. However, this would be more than matched by a rise in supplies and higher levels of recycling.
