Platts reported analysts say new platinum group metals projects in South Africa are unlikely to have much affect on platinum output over the next year.

As quoted in the market news:

Platinum output from South African mines, which account for nearly 80% of annual global platinum output, has underperformed most of the year and fell sharply in October, the last month data is available, BofA Merrill Lynch analysts said.

Factors in the falling output appear to be structural in nature, and mainly related to safety and higher production costs for fuel and worker salaries.
