Intense lobbying ahead of vote on mining bill

CTV Winnipeg.com reports that a private members bill that would have required Canadian mining companies to toughen their environmental and human-rights regulations when working abroad, including mining for Palladium, was narrowly defeated in the House of Commons.

The story is quoted as saying:

The registry shows MPs were lobbied by Barrick Gold (TSX:ABX.TO), the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G.TO), Vale Canada Inc., Iamgold Corp. (TSX:IMG), the Mining Association of Canada, Stillwater Mining Company and Xstrata Nickel.
