Ebola Nears Guinea-based AngloGold Ashanti Mine

Bloomberg reported that Ebola has now made it to two new regions in Guinea, one of which is near a mine belonging to AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (NYSE:AU).

As quoted in the market news:

The place that reported infections in the Siguiri area is 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the Johannesburg-based company’s facility, the Ministry of Health and AngloGold said in statements yesterday. Employees haven’t been infected and operations continue, the mining company said.

The death toll in Guinea has risen to 887 since the outbreak started in December, the ministry said in its statement. More than 4,500 people have died in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, hurting the economies of the three nations and threatening to slow growth in West Africa.
