Over the weekend, Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TSX:TXG) reported that 12 people went missing from the vicinity of its Media Luna project in Mexico. A report from The Washington Post notes that they were kidnapped.

As quoted in the Torex press release:

The whereabouts of these community members is unknown at this time. One of the 12 missing community members works for the company as a labourer and was off duty at the time he went missing. Three others work for contractors to the project. Our thoughts are with the individuals and their families, and our site team is providing support through this difficult time for the community.

The army has returned to the area and is currently conducting operations to determine the whereabouts of the missing community members. The Company curtailed operations on February 7th and through the night, to give the army the opportunity to conduct its operations without the complexity of project generated road traffic.
