Where the World’s Mineral Industry Meets! The 2012 Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada’s (PDAC) annual International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange will be held from March 4 to 7 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) – South Building.
Every year, the PDAC convention brings tens of thousands of people together from all different sectors of the mining community, including retail and institutional investors, analysts and newsletter writers, exploration managers, prospectors, brokers, financiers, junior and senior mining execs and personnel, geoscientists, students, and mining media.
“The convention has really hit its stride in terms of its place in the global mineral industry. In 2011, we had over 27,000 participants from 120 different countries—we’re seeing very strong interest again this year, both at home and internationally,” said PDAC President Scott Jobin-Bevans. “Early registration numbers are up from last year, reflecting both the health of the mineral industry—the sector is doing extremely well considering the uncertainty in many industries and markets around the world—and the tremendous networking and educational opportunities the convention offers.”
Conference attendees will have several other engaging Technical Session presentations and panels, including New Gold Mines and Projects in the Canadian Shield, Selected Mineral Deposits in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, Specialty Metals and Minerals, and New Discoveries & Developments.
The Investors Exchange provides attendees interested in resource investment with an opportunity to meet with major mining firms, mid-level producers, junior exploration companies, prospectors, brokerage houses, financial institutions, and stock exchanges. Nearly 700 exhibitors will be present, including prospectors displaying maps and samples in the Prospectors Tent. A visit to the Core Shack offers convention participants a hands-on experience with 60 deposits from around the world.
Schedule at a glance
From Monday through Wednesday, interested attendees can learn more about the investment potential of mining industry exhibitors at the Corporate Presentation Forum for Investors, where over 140 select companies will be presenting on their current activities and investment potential.
A number of luncheons and evening events are organized with the intention of providing a festive and social atmosphere for the enjoyment of conference participants.
Saturday
From 9 AM to 7 PM on Saturday March 3 at Canlan Ice Sports in North York, join PDAC and Caracle Creek International Consulting for the 5th annual PDAC-Caracle Cup Hockey Tournament. Players of all skill levels are welcome, and proceeds go to support Mining Matters, a charitable organization dedicated to educating students, teachers, and the public about geoscience and the importance of mineral resources.
Sunday
On Sunday March 4, the industry’s top newsletter writers and commentators will be presenting in room 801. Mickey Fulp of The Mercenary Geologist, Greg McCoach of The Mining Speculator, Brent Cook of Exploration Insights, Frank Holmes of US Global Investors, Lawrence Roulston of Resource Opportunities, and Jay Taylor of Gold, Energy & Tech Stocks are a few of the writers who will be in attendance.
From 6 PM to 8:30 PM, PDAC attendees are invited to participate in the convention’s largest networking event, the Welcome Reception, hosted in the Canadian Room at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
Monday
In room 701 on Monday from 9 AM to 12 PM, this year’s keynote session will focus on “dealing with uncertainty,” exploring the economic outlook, future discovery and development cycles, and human resources challenges in Canadian mineral exploration. Featured speakers include Patricia Mohr of Scotiabank Group, Michael Chender of Metals Economics Group, and Steve Ralbovsky of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Tuesday
Tuesday’s International Panel Luncheon features a discussion centered on The Nitty Gritty Details of Royalties, with moderator Douglas Silver, Portfolio Manager at Red Kite Management (USA) LP, and panelists that include the CEOs of Royal Gold, Inc. (TSX:RGL, NASDAQ:RGLD), Silver Wheaton (NYSE:SLW,TSX:SLW), and Franco-Nevada Corporation (TSX:FNV).
Wednesday
On Wednesday, join world-renowned geologist Dr. David Groves at the Innovation Luncheon for a discussion on The Geological Framework for the Business of Exploration and Mining. Participants will learn more about how major banks and brokerage firms assess the value of geological real estate.
Presentation Rooms in the North Building of the MTCC Sunday through Wednesday will feature presentations on several opportunities in various mining districts around the world including Australia, Brazil, Russia, Chile, Ecuador, Saskatchewan, Greenland, India, Peru, and Senegal. Most are open to all, but some prefer registration prior to March 1.
Tickets sell out quickly for luncheon and evening events, so purchase your tickets in advance when you register for the convention.
New to the convention for 2012, PDAC has launched NMN Mobi, an interactive mobile convention guide which will allow users to navigate the exhibits and exhibitor listings, technical sessions, and speakers, as well as find other attendees in real time through the use of integrated social media links that give users the ability to plan onsite meetings and build schedules on their mobile device.
