 Coal’s share of the electric generation market is shrinking because utilities are switching to combined cycle natural gas plants. Predictions vary. But the general consensus is that coal will drop notably from its 40 percent share today while natural gas will rise considerably from its 20 percent share. Now that a carbon policy has been set in motion, those figures could be expedited.
