EPA Coal-Ash Rule Changes Next Week Could Affect Coal Miners
The US Environmental Protection Agency is set to bring about changes to the way coal-ash is dealt with next week. According to TWC News, miners such as Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) will need to change how they deal with coal ash if the material gets added to the Solid Waste Disposal Act and gets labeled as “special waste.”
According to the publication:
That classification dictates how companies label, store, transport and report on certain wastes. The EPA could add other restrictions which they’re not yet releasing.
Duke has plans to move and repurpose some ash pending state approval. But environmentalists hope the EPA better regulates how that’s done.
