Dominion Virginia City Coal Power Plant Enters Service

Reuters reported the beginning of service of the coal and biomass-fired Dominion Resources Inc. 585-megawatt Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center power plant in southwest Virginia. The $1.8 billion project created 2,400 construction jobs and took four years to complete.

As quoted in the report:

Virginia City is one of only a few dozen coal-fired power plants to enter service or be under construction in the United States over the past few years due primarily to stricter environmental rules and weak natural gas prices.
