Cloud Peak Energy Ships 1 Billionth Ton of Coal from Cordero Rojo

Cloud Peak Energy (NYSE:CLD) will ship its one billionth ton of coal from its Cordero Rojo Mine in northeastern Wyoming, in coming days. The mine was the third largest in the United States by production last year.

Cloud Peak Energy (NYSE:CLD) will ship its one billionth ton of coal from its Cordero Rojo Mine in northeastern Wyoming, in coming days. The mine was the third largest in the United States by production last year.

As quoted in the press release:

The mine sold approximately 36.7 million tons of coal in 2013, ranking it as the third largest coal mine by production in the U.S. last year. Since 2005, the mine has paid more than $1 billion in taxes and royalties to federal, state and local entities.

Cloud Peak CEO, Colin Marshall, said:
