Mineweb.com reports that Fitch Ratings predicts that metals and steel raw materials will experience growth through to 2012, but notes that aluminum may have trouble due to large inventories.
The editoial is quoted as saying:
Fitch analysts noted aluminum production growth has been outsized resulting in surpluses and high stocks. “Fitch expects aluminum demands and supply to show a persistent surplus over the next 18-24 months. Absent meaningful cuts of high-cost capacity, sustained profitability will be at risk,” they advised
