Rapaport reported that the top lot at Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels sale was a 75.35-carat briolette diamond that sold for $11.2 million, which amounts to $148,000 per carat. That is a record for a briolette-shaped diamond sold at auction.

Vickie Sek, the director of the jewelry and jadeite department for Christie’s Asia noted that the sale of the diamond marked the third record breaking diamond result at Christie’s in one season, following world records set for diamonds at the auction house’s sales in New York and Geneva.
‘Collectors continue to show immense depth when bidding for great gems and masterpieces in the world of jewelry auctions,’ Sek said.
