AP reports University of Michigan is named part of a  national hub for boosting nuclear energy research and development in the U.S.

The Ann Arbor university said nine engineering faculty members will lead its part of the Nuclear Energy Modeling and Simulation Energy Innovation Hub. The hub which includes other academic, industrial and government institutions. It’s led by Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.

The university will receive up to $8.5 million over five years for its work in a group using powerful supercomputers to simulate how materials age in the harsh environment of a nuclear core.
