Kitimat Residents Reject Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline in Plebiscite
The Globe and Mail reported that Kitimat, BC residents have voted against the Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB) Northern Gateway pipeline in a non-binding plebiscite.
The Globe and Mail reported that Kitimat, BC residents have voted against the Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB) Northern Gateway pipeline in a non-binding plebiscite.
The municipality had stayed neutral up until this point, opting not to take part in a joint review of the project. Enbridge has said it is committed to environmental safety, but has encountered opposition to the pipeline from BC residents and local environmental group Douglas Channel Watch.
As quoted in the publication:
The ballot count from Saturday’s vote was 1,793 opposed versus 1,278 who supported the multi-billion dollar project — a margin of 58.4 per cent to 41.6 per cent. The results from two polling stations and an advance vote all showed a clear majority for the “No” side.
