Nidec Corp. (NYSE:NJ) will spend about 15 billion yen to construct an R&D center for developing next-generation electric motors that do not require rare-earth metals.

Nidec Corp. (NYSE:NJ) will spend about 15 billion yen to construct an R&D center for developing next-generation electric motors that do not require rare-earth metals.

The market news is quoted as saying:

Nidec will move an existing motor laboratory from Tokyo’s Shinagawa Ward to the new center, transferring nearly 30 researchers. The new facility will also have researchers from the U.K., the U.S. and India. They will come from R&D centers operated by the motor business Nidec bought from American firm Emerson Electric Co. last year. Hiring of college graduates will be ramped up as well.
