Graphite Investing News asked Lomiko Metals, Northern Graphite, Focus Graphite, Graphite One Resources and Big North Graphite about their future plans.
Specifically, they gave their impressions of the news and talked about what it means for them and for the junior graphite sector as a whole.
To get an idea of what the companies plan to do moving forward, GIN also asked them, “what’s next?” Here are their answers:
Paul Gill, president and CEO of Lomiko Metals (TSXV:LMR):
We are developing end uses for flake graphite such as graphene supercapacitors and 3D printing filament that uses graphene. Both are disruptive technologies.
Greg Bowes, CEO and director of Northern Graphite (TSXV:NGC,OTCQX:NGPHF):
Northern is the only public company with a true, large-flake deposit, and it is the only one with a bankable final feasibility study and its major environmental permit. Among the new projects, it has the best infrastructure, the lowest capital costs and the lowest unit operating costs.
Northern is also the only junior company to have successfully produced and tested spherical graphite for use in lithium-ion batteries. In doing so it has developed proprietary purification and coating technologies. The company’s objective is to have an upgrading plant operational at the same time as the mine comes into production.
Don Baxter, president and COO of Focus Graphite (TSXV:FMS,OTCQX:FCSMF):
We see financing, confirmation of our purification processes and the submission of our feasibility study and mine closure plan this year, which should lead us into production — possibly in time to move into lockstep with Tesla’s production plans.
Anthony Huston, president, CEO and director of Graphite One Resources (TSXV:GPH,OTCQX:GPHOF):
We are quickly advancing to complete our preliminary economic assessment and move towards getting into production.
Spiro Kletas, president, CEO and director of Big North Graphite (TSXV:NRT):
Big North is focused on two projects in Mexico. Big North Graphite is one of the few junior companies in the world with an amorphous graphite project. The company plans to increase our amorphous graphite business in Sonora, Mexico — where we have already sold 760 tons of graphite to a customer in Mexico — improve our processing capabilities and secure long-term offtake partners.
The company recently acquired the El Tejon flake graphite mine and mill in Oaxaca, Mexico. It is an open-pit mine and flotation mill that produced graphite from 1980 to 2002. Our immediate goal in Oaxaca is to explore our options regarding a quick restart of this operation. The goal of the company is to produce and sell amorphous and flake graphite; we believe that our portfolio of projects puts us in a position to do just that, and hopefully to accomplish our goals a lot sooner than our competitors.
It’s clear that all five companies have a lot to do — keep watching to see how their plans play out.
