Freeport Could Get Word from Indonesian Government on Grasberg this Week

Mining Weekly reported that the Indonesian government may decide as early as this week whether or not operations can resume at Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold Inc’s (NYSE:FCX) Grasberg mine after a series of accidents led to a prolonged closure.

As quoted in the Mining Weekly report:

Freeport has passed on a letter (requesting) permission to reopen the open-pit,” Energy and Minerals Resources Minister Jero Wacik told reporters. “We will decide this week whether to allow the open pit (to reopen) or not.
