Danakali Ltd. ( ASX:DNK; OTC:DNKLY) and its Joint Venture Partner, the Eritrean National Mining Corporation (“ENAMCO”) are pleased to advise of the appointment of Mr. Tony Harrington as Project Manager for the construction phase of the World Class Colluli Potash Project with immediate effect. The Colluli project is 100 percent owned by the Colluli Mining Share Company (“CMSC”) which is a 50:50 Joint Venture between DNK and ENAMCO. Mr. Harrington has over 37 years’ experience in the mining industry delivering EPC, lump sum and EPCM projects in the capacity of both client representative and service provider over a diverse range of commodities, with a wide range of mineral processing units, across multiple jurisdictions including East Africa, West Africa, Southern Africa, China, Continental Europe, UK and Australia.
Key former roles included:
Project Manager for the construction of the circa US$300m Kwale Mineral Sands Project in Kenya, owned by Base Resources. This was the first ever large scale mine to be built in the country and at the time of commissioning was the largest capital project undertaken in Kenya in the past 40 years.
Project Manager for the circa US$330m Chimimiwango expansion at the Lumwana Copper Mine in Zambia, owned by Equinox/Barrick, which included debottlenecking existing process plant and installation of additional processing infrastructure including flotation, pumping and cyclone circuits.
Project Manager for the circa US$190m Dundee Precious Metals Chelopech Mine underground materials handling system in Bulgaria.
In addition, Mr. Harrington Project Managed on the BHPBilliton Groote Island Manganese upgrade, was the Client Representative for the Kagara Mungana Poly-Metallic (copper, lead and zinc) Project, and was the Construction Manager and Deputy Project Manager for the Jinfeng Gold Project in Guizhou province, China. Mr. Harrington has extensive experience in construction and assembly of surface infrastructure, materials handling systems, flotation circuits, pumping systems, tanks, cyclones, liberation circuits, thickeners and tailings storage facilities. He brings significant experience and an excellent track record in working in remote locations in developing jurisdictions. He will join the front-end engineering design (FEED) team which is currently being led by Fluor to familiarise himself with the project ahead of construction, and contribute to further optimising the project infrastructure and construction schedule. The FEED process is currently being overseen by Danakali Study Manager, James Durrant who will retain ownership of project studies.
Managing Director, Paul Donaldson said “We are delighted to have Tony join the Colluli Project as the Project Construction Manager. His extensive project management skills and depth which span across a large range of mineral processing units, commodities and jurisdictions make him an asset to the project as it advances towards construction. His appointment complements the excellent work completed throughout the project study phases by the Colluli Study Manager, James Durrant. We also appreciate the support from our Joint Venture partners on this key appointment for the project.”
Colluli is the shallowest known evaporite deposit in the world with a solid form ore reserve estimate of over 1.1bn tonnes1 . Permitting for the project was completed in February 2017, providing the Colluli Mining Share Company (CMSC) exclusive rights to apply for mining licenses within the Colluli tenements. Seven mining licenses have also been granted.
Colluli is the most fundable and economically attractive advanced stage SOP greenfield sulphate of potash (SOP) development in the world. The project demonstrates outstanding economics, including industry leading capital intensity, bottom quartile operating costs, proximity to coast and key markets and unrivalled product diversification potential.
