WOODBURY, NY–(Marketwired – March 29, 2016) – Vanderbilt Financial Group will be hosting a USGBC-LI sponsored LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) presentation followed by a private tour of the building in honor of Earth Day on April 20th from 6pm to 8pm, preceded by a 5pm media hour. Vanderbilt’s headquarters, located in Woodbury, achieved LEED Platinum status this September making it the first office building to do so on Long Island. This event will acknowledge and congratulate the architects, contractors, designers, and suppliers who helped to create Vanderbilt’s environmentally responsible office building. The tour is a wonderful opportunity for green building advocates to embrace and understand LEED construction and increase awareness of the most current and effective sustainable practices. The tour will be limited to the first 50 registrants.

LEED certification is achieved after rigorous evaluations from the USGBC, based on several areas that address sustainability issues through all phases of development. This project sets an example of environmental responsibility for the entire community.

LEED is changing the way we think about how buildings and communities are planned, constructed, maintained and operated.

Vanderbilt is an investment firm made up of over 100 Financial Advisors. Known as, “The Sustainable Broker Dealer,” Vanderbilt is the only environmentally sustainable broker dealer in the industry today. Vanderbilt CEO, Steve Distante explains, “We are committed to serving our environment and community. We teach impact investing or ESG which refers to investments made with the intention of generating positive environmental or social results. We champion Impact Investing for the same reason we went LEED; it’s the right thing to do.”

The event will feature a short presentation highlighting aspects of the building that contributed to its LEED certification. Speakers will include: Paul Meyer, LEED consultant and Senior Vice President of WSP Parsons Brinkerhoff; Salvatore Ferrara, President of Combined Resources Consulting and Design Inc.; Diana Lillo, LEED-AP and Co-founder of ID Unique Solutions Inc.; and David Schieren of Empower Solar.

USGBC-LI Vice Chairman, Victor DaCosta says, “What is significant about this project is that it demonstrates that with foresight, ownership, commitment and a talented design team, you can take a traditional office space and completely transform it into a leading edge sustainable building. On behalf of the USGBC-Long Island Chapter, I congratulate Vanderbilt Financial Group on their LEED Platinum certification and commitment to sustainable building.”
