Today silver rose 0.7 percent, or $0.14, to trade at $19.64 an ounce, according to Reuters.

Tension in Ukraine escalated following the death of 30 pro-Russia separatists in a conflict with Ukrainian government forces. The dollar, which is at a six-and-a-half-month low against a basket of other currencies, is also helping push silver upward.

“This morning you’ve got a weaker dollar, and there’s a safe-haven bid with the deaths in Ukraine, and fighting intensifying,” Societe Generale SA (EPA:GLE) analyst Robin Bhar told Reuters.
