Bloomberg Businessweek reported that Alacer Gold Corp. (TSX:ASR,ASX:AQG) jumped 10 percent after OceanaGold Corp. (TSX:OGC,ASX:OGC) said it had approached the company regarding a potential merger.

As quoted in the market news:
OceanaGold, whose approaches to Alacer began in February, said today it isn’t in talks with Alacer and would only be willing to pursue a deal with the cooperation of the Alacer board.
Alacer said in a separate statement yesterday it has received approaches by companies and isn’t involved in any discussions. OceanaGold tried to engage with Alacer over a takeover, the Australian Financial Review reported today, without citing a source.
