Tournigan Energy Ltd reports members of the parliament rejected her amendment to the mining law for the proposal of SDKU-DS MP Jarmila Tkacova.

Under the initiative, a 12-year moratorium on mining of radioactive materials would have been imposed. The amendment to the mining law, which was sponsored by an opposition MP, was submitted also in connection with Greenpeace’s petition asking for a ban on uranium mining in Slovakia.

MP Tkacova has failed for the second time in her attempt to block uranium mining in Slovakia. She submitted first a proposal to stop uranium mining at the earlier October parliamentary session, which was also rejected in the first reading.
