Russian Steel Market Booming, but Tinplate Production Down
ITRI.com reports that despite a boom in the Russian steel market, tinplate production has fallen.
ITRI.com reports that despite a boom in the Russian steel market, tinplate production has fallen.
The story is quoted as saying:
Russia’s only tinplate producer, Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) reported a 17% increase in its finished steel production in 2010, with domestic sales growing by 44% as it gained share in the local market. However the company’s tinplate production fell by 2% to 208,000 tonnes. Fourth quarter production, at 42,000 tonnes, was 3% up on the same period of 2009. Overall the company is positive about prospects for 2011 for steel consumption in Russia and plans to raise total production to 12 million tonnes this year.
