Balkans.com reports an interview with Monika Nowotnik, analyst at Frost and Sullivan.
Monika Nowotnik says,
The Balkan region is richly endowed with metal resources such as chromite, copper, lead, and zinc. The metal and mining industries, which focus primarily on extraction of base and precious metals as well as metallurgy, have a long history in the Balkans. Historically, the Balkans were the key source of copper and chromite in Europe, however, there have been a series of mine shutdowns in the recent years. This region also has abundant source of tin, manganese, magnesite, and bauxite deposits.
