Transnet Intends to Build Richard Bay Terminal, Open Market to New Players

Mining Weekly reported that Transnet intends to build its own coal terminal at Richards Bay in South Africa, in an attempt to sidestep the monopoly that major miners have on exports.

As quoted in the market report:

“Transnet is busy investigating an open-access coal terminal for the unlocking of emerging or junior miners in the coal industry,” said Sudesh Maharaj, programme director for Transnet’s Richards Bay port expansion projects.
