The market news is quoted as saying:

China, the world’s largest producer and consumer of thermal coal, saw its consumption of steam coal grow 10% year-on-year to 1.73 billion mt. China produced some 1.8 billion mt of thermal coal in 2010, up 9% on the year, and accounts for 48.2% of global output.
