Norfolk Southern Bullish on 2011 Utility Coal Shipments, 2012 Exports

Platts reported that increased demand for coal and electricity are expected to cause Norfolk Southern’s (NYSE:NSC) coal shipments to increase.

The market news is quoted as saying:

Shipments bound for seaborne markets drove coal growth for the Norfolk, Virginia-based railroad during the three months ending June 30, rising 24% compared with the same period a year earlier to 7.94 million st.
