Newcastle Coal Shipments to Surge 19 Percent on Year-End Rush

Platts reported that coal shipments from Australia’s Newcastle port are expected to shoot up by 19 percent week on week, buoyed by a year-end rush.

As quoted in the market report:

Newcastle’s coal exporters including Anglo American, Rio Tinto and Yancoal Australia tend to maximize shipments in the last few weeks of the calendar year in a bid to utilize any remaining contracted annual port capacity, traders said.
