James River Coal Posts Surprise Quarterly Loss

MarketWatch reported that increased costs for James River Coal Co. (NASDAQ:JRCC) resulted in a loss for the company’s third quarter.

As quoted in the market news:

James River reported a loss of $3.7 million, or 11 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier profit of $9.2 million, or 33 cents a share. Revenue increased 77% to $303.9 million, while total cost of sales rose 98% to $288.8 million.
