Expect More Strikes at Port Waratah Coal Services’ Export Terminals
Platts reported that more 12- and 24-hour strikes at Port Waratah Coal Services’ coal export terminals, located at the Australia-based Newcastle port, have been endorsed by union-affiliated workers.
Platts reported that more 12- and 24-hour strikes at Port Waratah Coal Services’ coal export terminals, located at the Australia-based Newcastle port, have been endorsed by union-affiliated workers.
As quoted in the market news:
Around 220 [Port Waratah Coal Services] employees unanimously decided on this course of action in a meeting held during a four-hour strike between 10 am Sydney time (0000 GMT) and 2 pm Wednesday. But the exact timing of the industrial action is to be decided at a meeting of union representatives, expected in the coming days.
Five unions are involved in the industrial dispute — the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union, the Maritime Union of Australia, the Transport Workers’ Union, the Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union and the Australian Workers’ Union — and they have been negotiating with the company on a new workplace agreement since last year.
