In response to the 2008 sludge spill in Tennessee, U.S. President Obama’s administration has proposed a nationwide rule for the proper disposal of ash from coal-fired power plants.
Jim Roewer, executive director of the industry-funded Utility Solid Waste Activities Group said, “While we’re pleased that EPA is keeping an open mind with respect to regulation, we believe there’s only one prudent course of action — federal regulation of coal ash as a non- hazardous waste.”
