EIA Says US Coal Usage Could Drop to 25-Year Low

MarketWatch reported that the Energy Information Administration anticipates that more natural gas consumption will cause a drastic drop in coal consumption in the US this year.

As quoted in the market news:

The EIA, in its May short-term energy outlook, said it expects U.S. power plants, steelmakers, and other users of the fuel to consume a total of 876 million short tons of coal this year, down 4.5% from the 917 million forecast in April. That would be the lowest consumption since 1987.
