Mineweb reported that striking workers at Drummond Ltd.’s Colombian coal mine plan to continue fighting for higher pay and better benefits, meaning that operations may not start up again until October. The strike began on July 23.

As quoted in the market news:

‘The union is not going to lift the strike if the company doesn’t improve its offer,’ Edgar Munoz, vice president at Sintramienergetica, the complex’s largest union, said by telephone from northern Colombia, a day after Drummond said it would retract a signing bonus offer if a deal isn’t reached this week. ‘After 42 days we are not going to back down.’
