Coal shares rise on increasing demand, merger talks

Reuters.com reports that several coal companies’ shares were sent up today by increase in demand the steel-making industry, and more talk of mergers.

Shares of Alpha Natural Resources (ANR.N) rallied 7.6 percent to lead the sector, while Arch Coal (ACI.N) gained 4.1 percent and Consol Energy (CNX.N) rose 4 percent.
