Alpha Natural Resources Idles Laurel Mountain Mine

Mineweb reported that Alpha Natural Resource Inc. (NYSE:ANR) has idled the Virginia-based, underground Laurel Mountain mine, which produced metallurgical coal.

As quoted in the market news:

The cost of mining at Laurel Mountain was ‘unsustainable relative to the market price’ for coal, Ted Pile, a spokesman for Bristol, Virginia-based Alpha, said today in an e-mail. The move is ‘a continuation of adjusting our mining assets to the realities of the marketplace,’ he said.
