Sterlite Industries Fined 1 Billion Rupees for Environmental Infractions at Indian Plant

Reuters reported that Sterlite Industries has been fined 1 billion rupees for breaking environmental regulations at an Indian plant that has recently been closed because of environmental hazards.

As quoted in the market report:

The court said that levels of chromium, copper and lead were higher than stipulated in some of the groundwater samples collected from the area, while emission of suplhur dioxide was well within limits stipulated by TNPCB.
