JCK reported that Russia’s ALROSA (MCX:ALNU) has found a 76.07-carat diamond whose worth is estimated at US$430,000.
As quoted in the market news:
The diamond was recovered by the company’s Aikhal Mining and Processing Division, in the northern region of Yakutia, Republic of Sakha. The stone was located in the Yubileynaya kimberlite pipe, which was discovered in 1975.
From the company’s description of the stone: ‘This crystal has octahedral shape, transparent, with yellowish hue. There are small inclusions of olivine in its periphery; its superficial part contains discal crack filled with graphite and sulphide.’
That’s not the only promising stone that’s been found in Yakutia. Another news article states:
In December last year, another diamond mined from an Alrosa site in Yakutia sold for US$1.81 million (AU$2.3 m) at a New York Sotheby’s auction. The round, brilliant cut 47.78-carat diamond – which originated from a 128.44-carat rough – had a starting price of US$900,000 (AU$1.1 million).
