No need for uranium despair

The Australian reports on the impact of uranium markets around the world.

The market news is quoted as saying:

And the nuclear industry has some challenges ahead. We’ve got New York Governor Andrew Cuomo now saying he wants to close the Indian Point nuclear plant, which will be interesting when you consider that the 2000-megawatt station provides 25 per cent of all the electricity used in the Big Apple.

Now we’ve got the Cambodian government scrubbing plans to build nuclear power plants.

But the Greens can’t cheer just yet: thermal (for which read: coal) power will be the generation of choice. The decision makers in Phnom Penh didn’t want a repeat of Fukushima – apparently ignoring the fact that the latest reactor is somewhat advanced on the 40-year-old Japanese installation.
