Even in 2010, the US Geological Survey reported that the African country had a “significant role” in global production of beryl, ilmenite, tantalum and zircon. In that year, Mozambique’s share of global tantalum production was some 16%; of ilmenite, around 6%; of zircon, about 3%; and beryl, some 1%. Domestically important is the production of cement.
