Magnis Resources (ASX:MNS) reported operational activities for the Nachu Graphite Project in Tanzania, for the quarter ending June 30th, 2015. Highlights included submission of the Environmental Social Impact Assessment to the National Environment Management Council (NEMC) Tanzania, ongoing engineering and site infrastructure work, and continued activities with the community.

Highlights included submission of the Environmental Social Impact Assessment to the National Environment Management Council (NEMC) Tanzania, ongoing engineering and site infrastructure work, and continued activities with the community.

EIS Submission
The Environmental Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) phase has been completed and subsequently the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) was submitted to the National Environment Management Council (NEMC) Tanzania.
Following the submission of a draft EIS, site inspections by staff from NEMC and the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) were conducted and Technical Advisory Committee meetings have been completed. The comments received from the visits and meetings were addressed and incorporated into the final EIS document.
The EIS was completed by consultants MTL Ltd, Tanzania and Digby Wells Environmental based in South Africa and adhered to IFC standards and comprehensively covered all environmental and social aspects of the Project.
The process for gaining approval for the Special Mining License continues to track to schedule.
Government and Community involvement
Community engagement has been a high priority for Magnis. Meetings have been held regularly with all stakeholders to explain the Company’s activities at each stage of the project. Good lines of communication with all stakeholders and our transparency with the community has resulted in a mutually respectful relationship.
A comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program is being developed with the local stakeholders that will concentrate on long term sustainable benefits to the whole community such as water supplies, health and education. Several contributions have been made by Magnis to various local village projects including the improvement of a primary school and the construction of a medical clinic.
Presentations have been held with the Commissioner for Minerals and other officials in the Tanzania Ministry of Energy and Minerals. In discussions to date, all levels of the Government have been very supportive of getting the Project into operation.
2015 Drilling Programme
With the conclusion of the wet season, the 2015 drilling program began in the middle of May.
This program had a number of objectives that included:

  • Resource drilling to refine the Mine Plan in preparation for future operations;
  • Site preparation drilling including geotechnical drilling for the Tailings Storage Facility and water storage dam; and
  • Water bore drilling to confirm an alternative source to river water for construction and/or operation phases.
