Sirius Resources NL (ASX:SIR) announced that it has been granted Mining Lease Application M28/376 by the Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum. It contains the proposed Nova nickel project.

As quoted in the press release:

This now enables the Company to start the process of obtaining those approvals and permits which were contingent on having a granted Mining Lease. On the basis that no issues have been identified that would be reasonably anticipated to pose any sort of hindrance to the permitting process, the Company expects to be in a position to commence development early in 2015 as previously advised.

Mark Bennett, managing director of Sirius, commented:

This is yet another important milestone on our path to creating the best nickel mine in Australia. I would like to acknowledge the efforts and professionalism of the staff of the DMP who have made this process so efficient, and also the goodwill shown by both the DMP and the Minister of Mines, the Honourable Bill Marmion, throughout the last two years. This shows that despite the various fashionably negative views often expressed, Western Australia is a good place to explore, invest and do business.
