KGHM Could Face $29 Million Fine Over Sierra Gorda Environmental Breaches

Mining.com reported that Chile has found Sierra Gorda SCM guilty of committing 9 environmental infractions. The firm is jointly owned by KGHM Polska Miedz (WSE:KGH) and Japan’s Sumitomo Metal Mining.
As quoted in the publication:

According to the Superintendence for the Environment (SMA), the “serious” to “mild” breaches include not implementing measures to control emissions, altering the natural habitat for native wildlife, and operating a tailings dam in an unauthorized fashion.
