As quoted in the article:

An increase in global food demand is set to trigger a bigger need for Australian commodities, according to a Western Australia-based mineral exploration company Potash West managing director Patrick McManus said global population growth and improved living standards would result in demand for mining commodities used in food production, including potash – the salts that are mined and manufactured to make fertilisers.
