The Gainesville Council for Economic Outreach announced that Coqui Radiopharmaceuticals Corp. has chosen to develop its medical isotope production facility in Alachua, Florida.

As quoted in the press release:

The facility will also be used for cutting-edge medical isotope research and development and will provide a research infrastructure that can be shared with local universities. The project will create 164 jobs and generate a capital investment of approximately $230 million.

Coquí Radiopharmaceuticals will design, construct, and operate a medical isotope facility for the production of critical medical isotopes. These medical isotopes are used in nuclear medicine for the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases including Alzheimer’s, cancer, renal disease, and occult bone traumas.

Congressman Ted Yoho commented:

I am pleased to welcome Coqui Radiopharmaceuticals to Florida’s Third Congressional District and thank them for choosing North Central Florida as their new home. The addition of Coqui Radiopharmaceuticals is a natural fit and will continue to build on the great reputation the Sid Martin Biotech Incubator – located in Progress Park – has created.

The Sid Martin Biotech Incubator is a partnership between the University of Florida and business. It is the number one biotech start up in the world located here in our own backyard between the cities of Gainesville and Alachua. Coqui is estimated to create approximately 164 jobs with better than average wages in the range of $70,000 – 75,000.
