British Columbia’s Ministry of Energy and Mines announced that Teck Resources Ltd. (TSX:TCK.B,NYSE:TCK) has been issued a Mines Act amendment for its Quintette coal mine. The amendment allows the past-producing mine to reopen.

As quoted in the press release:

Quintette is expected to yield three million metric tonnes of clean steel-making coal per year using an open pit mining method. Coal from this project will be shipped out of Prince Rupert for overseas markets.

The mine was previously in operation from 1982 to 2000.

The provincial government consulted with the Saulteau First Nations, West Moberly First Nations, McLeod Lake Indian Band, Doig River First Nation, Halfway River First Nation and Prophet River First Nations during the review of this project. First Nations will continue to be engaged throughout the life of the mine.
