Mining Weekly reported that South Africa’s Free State government has commenced the initial phase of a large containerised manganese project.
The market news is quoted as saying:
The shift from road to rail could reduce the number of trucks transporting manganese from Northern Cape to the Free State by 58 823 trips a year and reduce transport costs by some 20% in the industry by enabling the use of more rail in the Free State. The project is operational and about R78-million worth of equipment has already been bought. It would create about 400 direct job opportunities and further 300 to 500 indirect jobs in various support industries feeding this project.
